SwimSafer

The SwimSafer is a National Water Safety Programme in Singapore designed to teach participants how to stay safe around aquatic environments. MOE Schools typically enrol the entire Primary 3/4 cohort for the programme conducted as part of their physical education curriculum.

The pre-requisites for students to opt out of their school’s swim programme varies among schools and obtaining SwimSafer certifications externally does not guarantee exemption. Hence, we generally encourage our students to participate in their respective school swimming programmes. Nonetheless TSR aims to conduct SwimSafer certification twice a year for students who wish to be certified for the purpose of school exemption only.. This test is entirely optional.

Should you prefer not to participate, be assured that TSR’s Swim Syllabus will fully equip our students with the necessary skills that meet SwimSafer standards. Students can inform their teachers of their swimming abilities by referring to their current TSR levels.

We will be conducting Stage 1 and Stage 4 (Bronze) Test.

*Students who have no prior SwimSafer certifications, will be registered at the highest possible stage they can achieve.

Students who already have a SwimSafer certification, will have to be registered at their next immediate level according to the sequence of stages as the programme does not allow skipping of stages.

Students will need to attend 2 sessions - a training and trial test to familiarise students with the test’s requirements and sequences.

FAQ

Q: How do I know which SwimSafer Stage my child will be registered for?

A: Do note that we are currently only conducting SwimSafer Stage 1 and Bronze. You may ask your coach to advise on the stage to register for.

Q: Why are we required to attend the Training & Mock Test?

A: Although all students should already be equipped with the skills required for their test, the SwimSafer Test requires students to perform these skills in a sequence and some of which requires specific timings. The Bronze test will also be conducted in the deep pool, which many students may not be familiar and comfortable with. The training and mock test will be essential in preparing students for the actual test day.

Q: What if I can only attend 1 session, the actual test date and not the Training & Mock Test date?

A: Sorry but we will require students to attend both sessions in order to take the test. Please highlight to us and we will review upon recommendation by your coach. If not, please consider registering for the next one end of the year.

Q: What if we are unable to attend this round of test?

A: There is no alternative test date, please register for the next one which will be conducting in Nov/ Dec 2023

Q: If my child completed SwimSafer Stage 1 before, can my child go for SwimSafer Bronze the next?

A: No, students who already have a SwimSafer certification, will have to be registered at their next immediate level according to the sequence of stages as the programme does not allow skipping of stages once started.

Q: Why is The Swimming Room not conducting the other stages of SwimSafer?

A: We do not use Swimsafer for our students' swimming progression. TSR only conducts SwimSafer mainly for students who wish to obtain the SwimSafer certificate for school's exemption.
