Becoming as essential as First Aid, lifesaving courses is one of the water-skills that more people are signing up for. Just like first aid, it equips one with the skills to look out and care for the safety of your loved ones. 

The Swimming Room now offers

Lifesaving Courses, namely: 

1. Lifesaving 123 Award Course

2. Bronze Medallion Award Course

After completing Lifesaving 123, the next goal to becoming a certified lifeguard is the Bronze Medallion Award.

 

And should you wish to pursue further, you may consider Bronze Cross, Award of Merit and Lifesaving Teacher Award Course. Contact us if you are interested in these courses.

Lifesaving 123 Award Course

Lifesaving 123 Award course 

-consists of three phases:

1. Lifesaving 1 Award

  • Basic water safety, water dangers and water rescue in a swimming pool.

  • Identifying non-swimmers and weak swimmers.

  • Basic land-based rescue skill such as Reach Rescue, Throwing of Buoyant Aid, Wading Rescue (with buoyant or rigid aid) and Accompanied Rescue.

  • Ability to swim 100 meters in any recognized strokes.

2. Lifesaving 2 Award

  • Introduction to water rescue, dangers of open water and applying mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to unconscious casualty (CPR).

  • Expiry Air Resuscitation(EAR).

  • Identify the movements of non-swimmer, weak swimmer, swimmer with limb injury, unconscious non-breathing swimmer.

  • Land-based emergency rescue techniques such as Rope Rescue and Non-Contact Tow Rescue of an uncooperative casualty scenario.

  • Ability to swim 150 meters comfortably in any recognized strokes.

3. Lifesaving 3 Award

  • Understanding water rescue and treating of cramp and minor bleeding.

  • Sculling of water using only arms, tread water without using the arms.

  • Perform Resuscitation Rescue on an unconscious casualty (breathing and non-breathing).

  • Underwater Recovery, Defensive and Release Techniques of casualty and full-clothed emergency rescue.

  • Confidently swim 200 meters in any two recognized strokes.

Venue:

First session @ TSR Pool (5 min walk from Buona Vista MRT) 

Subsequent sessions @ Queenstown Swimming Complex

Pre-requisites:

- Able to swim 100m Breaststroke

- Able to float on back for 30s OR able to swim survival backstroke

- Able to tread water for 1 minute

- 13 years old and above (as of year of test date)

*Note:

Participants are expected to meet the pre-requisites before registering for this course.

A skills-test will be conducted on the first session to ensure pre-requisites are met. Participants who fail the skills-test will automatically be enrolled into the next Lifesaving 123 Course (Course 2).

Lifesaving Express

Bronze Medallion Award Course

Bronze Medallion Award Course 

- emphasises swimming fitness and rescue techniques within time limit.

Pre-requisite:

Attainment of Lifesaving 123 Award

  • Working knowledge of water safety, survival in water, rescue principles and emergency aftercare.

  • Perform Land-based Rescue, Water-based Rescue.

  • Demonstrate Rescue Fitness under a time of 3 minutes 15 seconds.

  • Perform Contact Tow Rescue of an uncooperative casualty and provide aftercare.

  • Rescue of a submerged casualty within 1 minute 15 seconds and perform CPR.

  • Swim 400 meters continuously in at least three recognized strokes.

Lifesaving Prep Course

Lifesaving Preparatory Course

What is it?

You are not a strong swimmer or slightly lacking in one of the required strokes? You are unable to meet the pre-requisites of the course? You may not be ready to pass the Lifesaving Course you signed up for. Fret not.

The Lifesaving Preparatory Course provides weekly trainings to help with your swim strokes that are necessary to pass the Lifesaving Course you registered for.
